h. 5 1/8 (13,1 cm) - w. 3 7/8 in. (9,8 cm)
Hallmarked for John Hardman & Co., Birmingham and date letter D for 1852/1853. The initials 'EK' and 'R' (or possibly 'K') each twice in enamel roundels.

Provenance

Commissioned by Edward King, 13 Queen Square, Bath, and delivered to him on 18th June 1853 at cost of £9 17s 6d. King was an attorney and solicitor who died in Paris on 16th April 1855. His wife Sarah King died in 1888.

Exhibitions

'Exhibition of Victorian and Edwardian Decorative Arts', at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1952 (for the 1843 cup made for Pugin himself and lent by his descendant C. H. Purcell) - 'Birmingham Gold and Silver 1773-1973', at the City Museum and Art Gallery of Birmingham, from 28th July to 16th September 1973 (for the 1851 cup made for the Knill family and lent anonymously under number C16).
